I simply love to watch films. My home in France has a library of over 1,000 films. A great movie that I watched recently is called A Good Year. Starring Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard. The film is set in the present day and is about a London stock broker named Max Skinner (Crowe). He is greedy, cunning, and intelligent.
He recently found out that his loving uncle has just passed away. Skinner spent almost all of his childhood summers at his uncle chateau in France. Skinner mentions in the movie that “almost all of his happiest memories in his life take place within a hundred steps of his uncle’s house.” Skinner wishes only to make money and so his initial thought is to sell the chateau.
However, after developing a close relationship with the French caretakers of the chateau and the vineyard, meeting Fanny Chenal, the beauty of the town, and his long lost cousin. He realizes that money has got nothing to do with happiness. The simple pleasures in, life, love, friendship, and wine are far more important than dollars!
If you are a lover of wine, passion, beauty, friendship, courage, and people, then this movie is for you. If you also enjoy the humours rivalry between the French the English, and the fact that Europeans think Americans as ignorant, then this movie is also for you. A Good Year!
