Knitting by Krista Shugart

As everyone knows, Vermont has very cold winters. Personally, as a second semester sophomore this is my hardest semester yet. I have been knitting and crocheting for five years now, and I find it as a way to relax and get my mind off of things when I get stressed. I also think that knitting and crocheting (and looming) is a great way to make spontaneous handmade gifts for friends.   I know that some of the most meaningful presents I have ever received are gifts from the heart, and knitting and crocheting gifts can be very special. Poultney has a great knitting store in town called Stitchy Women. The store is about a 3 minute walk from campus.

“Stitchy Women is a specialty yarn shop located in Poultney, VT. We have all of your knitting and crocheting needs. We carry an extensive inventory of yarns from Cascades, Green Mountain Spinnery, Reynolds (lopi brands), Plymouth, and many more. We have thousands of patterns for all of your knitting and crocheting ideas: baby patterns, felting patterns, sweaters, socks, hats, mittens… if you can imagine it, we have it! We also stock needles, buttons, markers and notions.”

Check out their website for store hours http://www.stitchywomen.com/

Being a college student in Vermont is a perfect way to start knitting and crocheting. After learning you can make hats and scarves and keep yourself warm this winter! OR you can donate your items to a local old folks homes, local homeless shelters, or the Rutland County Women’s Network & Shelter!
