VT Gas Pipeline and Rutland County

Twenty-five Green Mountain College students and members of Activism@GMC joined with the Rutland Climate Coalition for a rally on Saturday February 14th. We were in Rutland on Valentines Day to celebrate the announcement that happened earlier in the week, which was that Phase II of the pipeline was cancelled! The cancellation of Phase II marked International Paper (a multinational company) revoking their funding of the second phase of the pipeline project. The cost that Phase II was going to be was $99 million prior to the cost increase and is now $135 million and it can be expected that these cost increases will continue to rise.

 

As countless cars passed and honked in support of us protesting the VT Gas Pipeline, it was clear that there is opposition to the pipeline project in Rutland.
